Floor preparation & tools.

Vinyl flooring can be laid on any type of surface (floorboards, tiles, carpets, old vinyl flooring, etc.).

2 possibilities:

• remove the old flooring (carpet or old vinyl flooring)
• fit the flooring directly on the floor (surface condition permitting)

The surface must be clean, flat, dry and smooth. Fill any holes or cracks with a smoothing compound (and use putty for floorboards).

Before installation:

• make sure that the floor is hard, flat, dry and smooth
• clean the surface:
  • remove dust and clean the floor with water containing a mild detergent
  • remove any traces of plaster, paint or greasy substances, etc.
• level the surface (if necessary)

Tools required:

• for adhesive tiles:

  • 1 ruler
  • 1 Stanley knife
  • 1 pencil

• for sheet vinyl:

  • 2 x 2m metal rulers
  • 1 Stanley knife
  • 1 notched spatula (for adhesive)
  • 1 tape measure
  • 1 plane
  • adhesive acrylic or double-sided adhesive tape
