The new standard for indoor multi-sports flooring came into effect on 1st January 2007 and sets new minimum standards for the sports and technical characteristics of a sports floor for the benefit of specifiers, end users and owners of sporting facilities.
Safety is a paramount concern of the new standard and all sports floors must now comply with these standards.
Prior to the introduction of the new standard, various countries used their own criteria to identify and assess sports floors and while will be superceded they will continue to be used in conjunction with the new standard until July 2008.
The European multi-sports floor standard, referred to as the EN 14904, or BS EN 14904 in the UK, is broken down into 3 sets of characteristics all of which contribute to the minimum performance requirements of an indoor sports floor.
It is important to note that the essential characteristics, indicated in the chart, must be clearly marked on all material packaging.
